Filton Avenue was opened as a County Infant School in 1933. Children enter the school during the year in which they are five, and they all have the opportunity to take advantage of three full years of infant education. Most of our pupils have previously attended Filton Avenue Nursery School situated on the same campus. Filton Avenue Junior School also occupies the same campus.

The Infant School has always occupied the building nearest to Lockleaze Road. There are six classrooms in the main building, as well as an ICT suite. There are three further classrooms in the annexe. One of these classrooms is used for group and individual work with specialist teachers. We have a purpose built and well-equipped room for food activities. Our Library has been refurbished recently and has a large range of new non fiction books. The large hall is used for assembly, music, visual aids, group work, story time, and is fully equipped for physical education. At lunch time it is used as a dining room.

The School holds the Bristol Inclusion Standard, the Healthy Schools award and is working towards the Bristol Standard for the Early Years.

We are part of a Primary Strategy Learning Network with other local schools including Filton Avenue Nursery.

Last year successfully bid to become a Reading Champion School through the Read a Million Words Scheme which operates in Bristol. This has brought lots of exciting extra opportunities to pupils in the school.
